Dubai International Airport to Expo City Dubai

Expo City Dubai, the former Expo 2020 site in Dubai South, is now a district of its own with the Dubai Exhibition Centre, pavilions, offices and homes, and it is one of the longest drives inside Dubai from DXB.

From DXB to the far south of the city

Expo City is close to Al Maktoum International and a long way from Dubai International. The chauffeur takes Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road or Emirates Road south, or Sheikh Zayed Road when it is clearer, and turns towards Dubai South near the end. Allow about forty-five minutes at quiet times and more than an hour in heavy traffic.

If your flight lands at Al Maktoum International instead, Expo City is only a short hop from that airport; check which airport is on your ticket.

Events, pavilions and gates

Expo City has many entrances, and for a large event at the Dubai Exhibition Centre the right gate saves a long walk. Choose the venue or gate from the address search, or drop a pin on it. Al Wasl Plaza, the Terra and Alif pavilions and the residential and office neighbourhoods each have their own drop-off points.

Travelling out after an event

On big event days, roads around Expo City can be busy when sessions end. If you are flying out of DXB after an event, book the pickup with a wide margin and add your flight number so the booking can flag a tight connection.

Big shows at the Dubai Exhibition Centre

Some of the region's largest trade shows now take place at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, GITEX Global among them from December 2026. During those weeks hotels nearby fill up and the roads into Expo City are busy at opening and closing time. The Expo 2020 metro station on the Red Line serves the site too, so on the busiest days some visitors combine a car to the hotel with the metro to the show.

DXB to Expo City Dubai: your questions

How long does the transfer take from DXB to Expo City Dubai?
About 50 kilometres, usually 45 to 75 minutes depending on traffic and the time you land.
Is Expo City closer to DWC than DXB?
Much closer. Al Maktoum International is next door to Expo City; Dubai International is on the other side of the city.
Can I go from DXB straight to an exhibition at the Dubai Exhibition Centre?
Yes. Choose the hall or gate in the address search. With luggage, consider whether your hotel is on the way.
Does the route to Expo City pass Salik gates?
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road have no Salik gates; Sheikh Zayed Road does. Any crossing is passed through at cost.
Is Expo City open to visitors when there is no event?
Yes. Al Wasl Plaza and several pavilions are open to visitors; check opening times on Expo City's website before you go.
Where will my driver meet me at Dubai International Airport?
Without Meet & Greet: the parking the airport designates for pre-booked cars, marked across the airport; it can move, so follow the markings. With Meet & Greet: inside the arrivals hall, with a name board.
