Into the city from the east

The chauffeur heads west on University City Road or Al Dhaid Road, passing the campuses of University City, and comes into the centre around Al Majaz, Al Qasba or the corniche. Most of the city is fifteen to twenty-five minutes from the terminal; the coastal districts of Al Khan and Al Taawun take a little longer. There are no tolls anywhere in Sharjah.

Lagoon, heritage and corniche

Al Majaz Waterfront, with its musical fountain, and Al Qasba, the canal-side arts and dining quarter with the Eye of the Emirates wheel, sit around Khalid Lagoon. The Heart of Sharjah heritage area, with The Chedi Al Bait hotel and the Sharjah Art Museum nearby, is by the old creek. Hotels around the lagoon include Hilton Sharjah, and along the coast towards Dubai, Sheraton Sharjah Beach Resort.

Some district names, Al Nahda among them, exist in both Sharjah and Dubai, so pick the exact building or hotel from the address search.

Within the emirate, one fixed fare

A trip from the airport into Sharjah City stays inside one emirate, so no cross-emirate surcharge applies. If you are going on to Dubai or Ajman, the surcharge is part of the fixed fare shown before you book.

Good to know in Sharjah

Sharjah has its own customs: alcohol is not sold or served anywhere in the emirate, hotels included, and modest dress is expected in public places, with swimwear for beaches and pools. Neither affects your transfer, but both are worth knowing if this is your first visit.
