Sharjah International Airport to Ajman

Ajman, the smallest of the seven emirates, lies a short way north of Sharjah International, which makes SHJ the natural airport for its beach hotels, Al Zorah and the residential districts inland.

North from the terminal

From the airport the chauffeur usually joins Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311) or Emirates Road (E611) heading north, then leaves the motorway at one of the Ajman exits. These inland roads keep clear of the slower streets of central Sharjah. The districts nearest the motorway are usually about twenty minutes from the terminal; the corniche and its beach hotels sit further west, on the coast, and take a little longer.

The evening is the slow time in this direction, when people coming home from work in Dubai and Sharjah fill the same roads, and the run to the seafront can then take around half an hour. Your chauffeur follows your flight, so an early or late landing moves the pickup with it, and the free waiting time counts from the moment the aircraft actually lands.

Corniche, Al Zorah and the old fort

Most visitors stay on the Ajman corniche, a long seafront road lined with beach hotels such as Ajman Saray and Fairmont Ajman, so choose your hotel by name rather than by the road. Al Zorah, at the northern edge of the emirate, has a golf course, a marina, a mangrove reserve and The Oberoi Beach Resort, a few minutes beyond the corniche.

In the town centre, Ajman Museum occupies the old fort. Residents mostly live in districts such as Al Nuaimiya, Al Rashidiya and Al Jurf, where many apartment towers look alike, so a pin on your building's entrance takes the chauffeur to the right door.

Two emirates, no tolls

The whole drive stays within Sharjah and Ajman, and neither emirate has road tolls, so no Salik gate is crossed on this route. Because the trip ends in a different emirate from the airport, it carries the cross-emirate surcharge, which is already inside the single fixed price you see before booking. Heavy traffic on the day does not change it.

Flying home from Ajman

For most of Ajman, SHJ is the closest airport, with Dubai International a little further. Sharjah Airport asks passengers to be at the terminal three hours before departure. On weekday mornings the roads south out of Ajman carry commuters on their way to Sharjah and Dubai, so leave a margin for an early flight, and add your flight number to the booking, which then warns you if the pickup time is too tight.

SHJ to Ajman: your questions

How long does the transfer take from SHJ to Ajman?
About 10 kilometres, usually 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic and the time you land.
Are there any road tolls between SHJ and Ajman?
No. Sharjah and Ajman have no toll gates, and the route never enters Dubai, so there is no Salik to pay.
Is the cross-emirate surcharge added at the end?
No. It is part of the fixed fare shown before you confirm, so the price you accept is what the ride costs.
How much longer is the drive to Al Zorah?
Only a few minutes more than to the corniche. Al Zorah is at the northern end of Ajman's coast; choose the resort or residence by name in the address search.
Is Ajman part of Sharjah?
No. Ajman is an emirate of its own, the smallest of the seven, surrounded by Sharjah on most sides.
Can we keep the car for a day out after landing?
Yes. Book the airport transfer, then hourly hire for the rest of the day, for the beach, lunch at Al Zorah or Sharjah's museums, with one chauffeur and car for the hours you book.
Where will my driver meet me at Sharjah International Airport?
Without Meet & Greet: the parking the airport designates for pre-booked cars, marked across the airport; it can move, so follow the markings. With Meet & Greet: inside the arrivals hall, with a name board.
