Choosing the road south

The chauffeur usually takes Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road south and cuts across to Al Khail Road or Ras Al Khor Road into Downtown, a route that usually avoids Salik gates. When that is congested, Al Ittihad Road and the creek bridges are the alternative, past the Al Mamzar gates and one creek crossing. Late at night it is about thirty-five minutes; on a weekday morning, more than an hour.

Arriving in Downtown

Downtown's hotels and residences surround The Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, part of which is one way. Choose Address Downtown, Palace Downtown, Armani Hotel Dubai or your residential tower by name, and the chauffeur arrives at its own entrance. On major event nights, roads around Burj Khalifa close early.

SHJ for a Dubai stay

Sharjah suits Downtown visitors whose airline flies there, often with a calmer arrival than at a big hub. Because the trip ends in Dubai, the cross-emirate surcharge is part of the fixed fare, and you know the whole cost of the ride before you land, apart from any tolls at cost.
