The short answer
Yas Marina Circuit holds the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, usually in late November or early December; Etihad Arena on Yas Bay stages concerts and shows; and the ADNEC Centre hosts exhibitions and conferences. Book early for race weekends and big exhibition days, when cars are in demand, and set the return for after the event ends.
Two of the capital’s busiest venues
Yas Island and the ADNEC Centre host many of Abu Dhabi’s biggest crowds. On Yas Island, Yas Marina Circuit holds the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, usually at the end of the season in late November or early December, and other motorsport and track events through the year; Etihad Arena, on Yas Bay, stages concerts, shows and sport; and the island’s theme parks draw families every weekend. The ADNEC Centre, on Khaleej Al Arabi Street in the city, holds large exhibitions and conferences across its halls. What these events share is that thousands of people arrive and leave at about the same time, which is when a plan for the journey pays off. Check each event’s official website for its dates, since they change from year to year.
Getting there from Dubai
Yas Island sits beside the main road from Dubai, so it is closer to Dubai than central Abu Dhabi is: about an hour to an hour and a half from Dubai, depending on where you start, along the E11 past Ghantoot. Since May 2026 the Darb gate at Ghantoot, on that road, charges at all hours, and Salik gates on Sheikh Zayed Road may be on the Dubai stretch. The ADNEC Centre is a little further into the capital. If your route into the city crosses one of the bridges with a Darb gate, those gates charge at the morning and evening peaks. With a drivoo chauffeur, Darb and Salik pass through at cost, itemised on your receipt. Book it as a Dubai to Abu Dhabi ride with the venue as your destination.
Flying in for the event
Zayed International Airport (AUH) is a short drive from Yas Island, and the ADNEC Centre is about 15 to 20 minutes from the airport by car. If you are flying in for a race weekend or an exhibition, book an airport pickup with your flight number: your chauffeur follows the flight and times the pickup from its arrival, with free waiting time after landing, and Meet & Greet can be added when you book where it is offered. Many visitors stay in Dubai and fly into Dubai International instead; the drive from DXB to Yas Island is longer, so plan for it. Race weekends at Yas Marina Circuit
On a race weekend, Yas Island is at its busiest. The circuit publishes its own access, parking and drop-off arrangements for each event, and roads on the island may change, so follow them and give your chauffeur the drop-off point named on your ticket or in the event’s guidance. Arrive early: the queues to enter the island build well before the main sessions. Leaving is harder than arriving, because everyone goes at once after the race or the concert that follows it. Agree a pickup point and time with your chauffeur in advance, using the note when you book, and expect a walk between the grandstand and the pickup area. Keep your phone charged so you can follow your car with the link in your booking message.
Concerts at Etihad Arena
Concerts and shows at Etihad Arena on Yas Bay follow the same pattern on a smaller scale: an easy arrival and a crowded exit. Set your return pickup for a little after the show is due to end, rather than the exact finishing time, so you are not waiting while the roads around Yas Bay clear. If you are staying on Yas Island or Saadiyat, the trip home is short; if you are going back to Dubai, an evening ride after a late show is exactly when a pre-booked car is most useful.
Exhibitions and conferences at ADNEC
Big exhibitions at the ADNEC Centre bring early starts, long days and a rush for taxis when the halls close. For exhibitors, a chauffeur by the hour can handle the morning drop-off, a lunch meeting in the city and the evening return, waiting nearby in between. For visitors coming for one day from Dubai, compare two one-way rides with an hourly booking: hourly keeps the same car all day, and distance beyond the allowance for your hours is charged per kilometre. Tell your chauffeur which hall or entrance you need, because the venue is large, and agree the evening pickup point before you go in. Companies sending a team can use our corporate chauffeur service.
Groups, families and the theme parks
For a group going to the race or a show together, one larger car is simpler than several taxis: enter your passengers and bags and choose drivoo Van when one fits. Families spending a day at the theme parks on Yas Island can book a chauffeur by the hour, so the car waits while you are inside and takes you on to dinner or back to your hotel. Children under four need a child seat, so add one for each young child when you book, and our guide to child seats in UAE cars explains the rules.
Where you stay changes the trip
Staying on Yas Island or Saadiyat Island keeps the journey to the circuit and the arena short, though the island’s own roads are busy on event days. Staying in central Abu Dhabi puts you close to the ADNEC Centre and a little further from Yas. Staying in Dubai gives you more choice of hotels but adds an hour or more each way, so a race weekend from Dubai means planning each day’s drive out and back. Whichever you choose, book each day’s rides ahead, with the times you need, rather than looking for a car when the event ends.
A checklist for event days
Check the event’s official dates and its access and drop-off guidance. Book early, because cars on race weekends and big exhibition days are in demand, and cancellation is free up to a set time before pickup, shown when you book. Put the venue, the gate or hall and your agreed pickup point in the note. Set the return for a little after the event is due to end. Keep your phone charged to follow your car.
