Al Maktoum International Airport to Downtown Dubai

Downtown Dubai is a longer transfer from Al Maktoum International than from DXB, about fifty kilometres up the length of the city, but a straightforward one on the main motorways.

The length of the city

From Dubai South the chauffeur heads north on Sheikh Zayed Road, or on Al Khail Road or Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road when Sheikh Zayed Road is slow, and comes into Downtown from Financial Centre Road or Al Khail Road. Plan for about forty minutes at quiet times and an hour in the rush, when the stretch past Al Barsha and Al Quoz fills up.

Sheikh Zayed Road passes several Salik gates on the way, including the Al Safa pair near Downtown, which are charged once when both are crossed together; all at cost.

Around the Boulevard

Downtown's hotels and towers sit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard and the streets off it, and parts of the Boulevard run one way. Choose your hotel, tower or The Dubai Mall entrance in the address search and the chauffeur arrives at its own door.

Why some Downtown visitors fly into DWC

Some airlines, charters and holiday flights use DWC rather than DXB. If yours does, the longer drive is the trade-off for a quieter terminal. The fare is fixed before you land either way, so the extra distance is never a surprise.

Evenings at the Fountain

The Dubai Fountain, back since its renovation in October 2025, plays on Burj Lake in the evenings, and the crowds it draws slow the drop-off roads around The Dubai Mall. If you land in the late afternoon, choose your hotel's entrance rather than the mall's, and expect the last few hundred metres to take longer than the motorway.

DWC to Downtown Dubai: your questions

How long does the transfer take from DWC to Downtown Dubai?
About 45 kilometres, usually 40 to 60 minutes depending on traffic and the time you land.
How far is Downtown Dubai from DWC?
About 50 kilometres by road, usually forty to sixty minutes.
Is it quicker to use Al Khail Road?
Sometimes. Your chauffeur chooses between Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road according to the traffic at the time.
Can I stop at my office on the way to the hotel?
Add the stop when you book in the drivoo app, so it is part of the fare.
When is the quickest time to arrive in Downtown from DWC?
Late at night and in the middle of the day. The weekday morning and evening rush on Sheikh Zayed Road add the most time.
Do I pay more because DWC is further from Downtown?
The fare quoted before you book covers the whole route, longer distance included; only Salik crossings are added afterwards, at cost.
Where will my driver meet me at Al Maktoum International Airport?
Without Meet & Greet: the parking the airport designates for pre-booked cars, marked across the airport; it can move, so follow the markings. With Meet & Greet: inside the arrivals hall, with a name board.
