Onto the island

The airport is on the mainland, so every trip into the city crosses Khor Al Maqta on one of the bridges, most often Sheikh Zayed Bridge. Your chauffeur picks the one that suits your address and the traffic. Outside the peaks the Corniche is about half an hour from Terminal A; in the morning and late afternoon rush, allow forty minutes.

The bridges carry Darb toll gates that charge at the morning and afternoon peaks from Monday to Saturday, and are free at other times, on Sundays and on public holidays. Any crossing is passed through at cost.

The Corniche and the city

The Corniche runs along the island's northern shore, lined with beaches, parks and towers. At its western end stand Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental and Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace that opened to visitors in 2019; Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers and the Corniche hotels are along the way. Behind it, Al Markaziyah, Al Khalidiyah and Al Bateen are dense grids of offices and homes where the exact building matters.

Choose your hotel, building or villa in the address search, or drop a pin on the entrance, and the chauffeur goes straight to it.

Meetings in the capital

If you are in the capital for ministries, embassies or company offices and your day runs from one meeting to the next, book the arrival transfer, then hourly hire for the rest of the day, so one chauffeur stays with you until you head back to the airport.

AUH to Abu Dhabi City: your questions

How long does the transfer take from AUH to Abu Dhabi City?
About 35 kilometres, usually 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic and the time you land.
Which bridge does the car take into the city?
Usually Sheikh Zayed Bridge, sometimes Al Maqta or Mussafah Bridge, depending on your address and traffic. All of them are Darb crossings, passed through at cost when charging.
Can I be dropped at Qasr Al Watan or Emirates Palace?
Yes. Choose the place by name in the address search; for Qasr Al Watan, the visitor entrance is the drop-off.
Is the city or Yas Island better for a short stay?
For business, the city; for theme parks and the circuit, Yas, which is only minutes from the airport. Some visitors split a stay between the two.
Is the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque on the way into the city?
It stands close to the bridges you cross from the airport, about fifteen to thirty minutes from Terminal A. Choose it as your destination, or add it as a stop when you book in the drivoo app.
Is the drive different on a Sunday?
Sunday is part of the UAE weekend, so morning traffic on the bridges is usually lighter, and the Darb bridge gates do not charge that day.
Where will my driver meet me at Zayed International Airport Abu Dhabi?
Without Meet & Greet: the parking the airport designates for pre-booked cars, marked across the airport; it can move, so follow the markings. With Meet & Greet: inside the arrivals hall, with a name board.
