Down the northern motorways

The drive follows the inland corridor that links the northern emirates with Dubai: Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, the E311, and Emirates Road, the E611, which keeps further from the coast. Your chauffeur chooses between them on the day, according to the traffic and the part of Dubai you are going to.

From Ras Al Khaimah through Umm Al Quwain the road is usually open. The slow part, when there is one, is the approach past Sharjah into Dubai, above all on weekday mornings, when commuters from the northern emirates are heading to work.

Deira, Downtown or the Marina

Deira and the streets around Dubai International are the near end of the city, about 90 kilometres from RKT. Downtown Dubai, with Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall, is further on, and Dubai Marina, close to JBR and the Palm, is the far end at about 120 kilometres, up to about two hours and ten minutes when the roads are busy. Choose the exact hotel or tower in the address search, and the chauffeur drives to its entrance rather than to the district.

Salik and the fixed fare

The four northern emirates on the way charge cars no road tolls (Ras Al Khaimah’s Aber gates are for trucks and heavy vehicles only), so tolls arise only once you are inside Dubai. Whether a Salik gate is crossed depends on the roads the chauffeur takes in the city: coming into Deira on Al Ittihad Road passes the Al Mamzar gates, for example, while Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Airport Road have none. Any crossing is passed through at cost and itemised on your receipt.

The cross-emirate surcharge is already inside the fixed fare you see before booking, so the only addition after the ride is a toll at cost, if your route crosses one.

Why fly into RKT for Dubai

For most of Dubai, Dubai International is much closer, so RKT makes sense mainly when its flights suit you better: Air Arabia flies from its base there, and IndiGo and Air India Express connect it with India. A small terminal also means a short walk and a quick passage through the formalities before the drive. The chauffeur keeps track of your flight, so an early or late landing moves the pickup with it, and the free waiting begins from the actual landing time.

Night arrivals and the flight home

A late-evening or overnight landing at RKT usually means a quiet motorway south and a drive at the shorter end of the range. For the return, book an airport drop-off from your Dubai address with your departure flight number, and the booking points out any pickup time that is too late for check-in.

Getting out of Dubai in the evening rush takes time, so set the pickup earlier than the kilometres alone would suggest. To break the journey, add a stop when you book, or choose hourly hire for a day with several.

RKT to Dubai: your questions

How long is the drive from RKT to Dubai?
About 90 to 120 kilometres, depending on where you are going, usually 60 to 130 minutes depending on traffic.
How far is Dubai from Ras Al Khaimah Airport?
About 90 kilometres to Deira and about 120 to Dubai Marina, with Downtown Dubai between the two.
How long does the drive from RKT to Dubai take?
Usually an hour to two hours and ten minutes: the nearer parts of Dubai at quiet times are at the short end, and the Marina in heavy traffic at the long end.
Do I pay Salik on the way?
Only if the route crosses a Salik gate inside Dubai; the emirates further north charge cars none. Nothing is paid in the car, as each crossing is shown on your receipt at cost.
Is this the same as the Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah intercity transfer?
The roads are the same, travelled the other way, but this one begins when your flight lands: the chauffeur works to your arrival time, and the free waiting after landing is included. To go from a Dubai address to Ras Al Khaimah, book the intercity transfer.
Can the chauffeur meet me inside the arrivals hall?
Yes. Meet & Greet, which you add when booking where it is offered, puts the chauffeur inside the arrivals hall holding a board with your name. Without it, the chauffeur waits at the spaces RKT designates for pre-booked cars.
