Zayed International Airport Abu Dhabi to Dubai

Zayed International works as a gateway to Dubai too: land on an Etihad flight, meet your chauffeur in Terminal A and be in Dubai Marina in about an hour and a quarter, or Downtown a little later.

Two motorways north

Because AUH is on the mainland, the drive to Dubai never crosses onto Abu Dhabi island. The chauffeur takes either the coastal E11 through Ghantoot to Jebel Ali and Sheikh Zayed Road, or the inland Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, the E311, which enters Dubai further east. The E11 is the usual way to the Marina, JBR and the Palm; the E311 often suits Downtown, Business Bay and the north of the city.

Tolls on the way

Darb, Abu Dhabi's road toll, applies on the way out of the emirate. Once in Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road has Salik gates, starting at Jebel Ali, and if your chauffeur takes a Salik road, to avoid traffic or for any other reason, the Salik applies as well. Every toll is passed through at cost and itemised on your receipt, and the cross-emirate surcharge is already inside your fixed fare.

How long to each part of Dubai

Dubai Marina, JBR and the Palm are the nearest, usually seventy-five to a hundred minutes from Terminal A. Downtown and Business Bay take eighty minutes to two hours, and Deira, at the far end of the city, longer still at busy times. Al Maktoum International and Expo City Dubai are on the way, about an hour out.

Flying out of AUH from Dubai

The same road works in reverse for your departure. Book an airport drop-off from your Dubai address with your flight number; the booking warns you if the pickup leaves too little time for check-in. Leaving Dubai in the morning rush adds time, so start earlier than the distance suggests.

Help

AUH to Dubai: your questions

How long is the drive from AUH to Dubai?
About 105 to 135 kilometres, depending on where you are going, usually 75 to 120 minutes depending on traffic.
How far is Dubai from Abu Dhabi Airport?
Dubai Marina is about 105 kilometres from AUH and Downtown Dubai about 125, with Deira further on.
Is Darb charged on the way to Dubai?
Yes, Darb applies leaving Abu Dhabi, and never in the car: it is passed through at cost on your receipt, with Salik too if your chauffeur takes a Salik road in Dubai.
Can the chauffeur take us to Dubai International Airport instead?
Yes. Choose DXB and your terminal as the drop-off; the drive is usually around an hour and a half.
Is this the same as the Abu Dhabi to Dubai intercity transfer?
The road is the same, but this starts at the airport: the pickup follows your flight and includes the free waiting after you land. From a hotel or home in Abu Dhabi, book the intercity transfer instead.
Is it better to fly into DXB if I am staying in Dubai?
DXB is closer to most of Dubai. AUH makes sense when its flights suit you better, for example on Etihad's network, or when you have a stop in Abu Dhabi first.
Can I go from AUH to Expo City Dubai or Al Maktoum International?
Yes. Both are on the Abu Dhabi side of Dubai, about an hour from Terminal A, closer than the Marina or Downtown.
What if my flight into AUH is delayed?
The pickup follows your flight's arrival estimate, so the chauffeur is there when you land, and the drive to Dubai starts from the time you actually meet.
